One-day Institutional Visit of Hima Physics FMIPA UNY to the Sleman Geophysics Station
Primary tabs
The FMIPA UNY Physics Association again held a One Day Institution Visit (KISS) activity on Wednesday, August 21 2024. The KISS 2024 activity took place at the Sleman Geophysics Station and was attended by a number of students accompanied by Mrs. Dr. Febrina Siska Widyaningtyas, M.Pd as accompanying lecturer. The event began with an opening by the MC who guided the event enthusiastically. Then, it was continued with remarks from representatives of the Sleman Geophysics Station agency, represented by the Station Head, as well as remarks from the supervisor of the FMIPA UNY Physics Association. After that, participants were given an explanation of the profile of the Sleman Geophysical Station. This presentation provides a comprehensive overview of the role and function of the station in monitoring geophysical activity in the Yogyakarta area and its surroundings. The participants were very enthusiastic about taking part in the first question and answer session.
The next agenda is presentation of material regarding earthquakes and tsunamis. This material is very important, considering that Indonesia is a country that is vulnerable to these two natural disasters. The participants gained in-depth knowledge about the mechanisms by which earthquakes and tsunamis occur, as well as mitigation efforts carried out by the Sleman Geophysical Station. The second question and answer session took place with great enthusiasm, where the participants actively asked various questions related to the material presented.
After the material and question and answer sessions were finished, the event continued with a tour of the equipment park, where participants were invited to see firsthand the equipment used in geophysical observations. Apart from that, participants also toured the Regional Earthquake Center VII (PGR VII) to find out more about earthquake monitoring activities in the Yogyakarta area.
The KISS 2024 activity was successful and provided valuable experience for the participants. Through this visit, it is hoped that students will be able to better understand the importance of geophysics and be inspired to study this field.
