In line with the university's long-term plans and at the same time supporting the achievement of IKU 8, the Department of Physics Education, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) UNY as an element of the academic community, FMIPA UNY is committed to helping develop the Department of Physics Education, especially the Physics Education study program into a program quality and international standard studies. This goal can be realized through international collaboration with universities both in ASEAN countries and outside ASEAN to collaborate with foreign university lecturers in several programs such as Visiting Professor and opportunities for collaboration in terms of research, publications and community service so as to improve the quality of research and publications from FMIPA UNY.

The Department of Physics Education, based on its scientific characteristics, has the potential to develop research methods for physics education. To be able to create research, community service, and teaching materials, especially in the field of research methods in physics education and evaluation of physics education, it is necessary to develop collaborative assessments with other universities that have an international reputation. One of the international partners that can collaborate with the Department of Physics Education, FMIPA UNY, is the School of Education, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). UTM is an old university that was founded in 1904 and has collaborated with several universities in Indonesia, including UNY. It is hoped that the collaboration between the Department of Physics Education, FMIPA UNY and UTM in the Visiting Professor (VP) In Bound program can be implemented and increase knowledge and scientific insight for lecturers, laboratory assistants and students in lectures and research groups related to this field.
